Our projects are designed to offer direct experience of curating and engaging in artistic research. Our community projects reflect the diversity of our vibrant city and celebrate life-long learning through meaningful art-making experiences.
Activating our Archives
Activating our Archives is a group research project led by artist and researcher Sunil Shah using photography and curation to bring together Oxfordshire communities to build an online archive through the use of photographs, films, digital images and archives. The project takes place at Modern Art Oxford and Fusion Arts, a charity based at East Oxford Community Centre that connects artists and communities with creative projects.
How Nature Builds
How Nature Builds is a group research project led by artist and researcher Sarah Blissett to explore the connections and flows between the environment and the human body. The project takes place at Modern Art Oxford and Wytham Woods, a semi-ancient woodland and research site, owned by Oxford University.
Professional development for volunteers
Modern Art Oxford hosts an annual exhibition co-curated by our volunteers that invites people living in Oxfordshire to submit creative responses for an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring everyday creativity. The 6-month project offers professional development opportunities for Modern Art Oxford volunteers in collaboration with Oxford Brookes University, creating opportunities to access and participate in the arts.
